There are many others from this series. Contact me if you are interested. They are all created in large file sizes and can go quite large. Printing on canvas will also give a more painterly presentation.
Many of these images would also look nice in black and white. For me, there is something spiritual and meditative about them.
Zen is about being in the moment. Timing is so important with photography. Much of my photography now is very spontaneous with the understanding of craft being supported by life experience. I find that the more fun I have doing photography, the more magic there is for me with the end result.
To order any of these images, please contact me directly at 908-790-8820 to discuss size, framing options and price.

Each tree is unique with its own posture or what I like to call gesture.
I look at the shape, color, texture, leaves, branches, trunk, and of course the lighting and how it tells the story.
Students always ask me what draws me to a a situation to make a photograph. It is always the quality of the light and the resulting shadow. It is a question of whether the light reveals or obscures the personality, the shape, or the individuality of the tree. I love to work in all seasons and with all kinds of atmospheric lighting conditions.
To order any of these images, please contact me directly at 908-790-8820 to discuss size, framing options and price.

If we did, we would discover a myriad of subtle hues, graceful lines and great textures creating fantastic compositions. I strive to see and show things in a new way. I look for the extraordinary in the mundane and have great respect for their intrinsic qualities.
Discovering my connection to abstract objects and natural forms has opened a new world for me with explorations into composition, color, light, and perspective.
These images may be abstract but I am not altering them in any way. They are basically straight photographs. It is my close-up point of view and attention to design that makes them appear to be almost abstract paintings or collages. I like to investigate small areas and work to create a balanced composition with the design elements of the subject and light along with careful positioning of the camera.
Many of these images can be printed quite large. I like printing them on canvas material to give them the look of large abstract paintings with a very modern and simple presentation. To order any of these images, please contact me directly at 908-790-8820 to discuss size, framing options and price.

I love to work with color, light, texture, and design in natural and man-made settings. Seeing photographically, thinking, looking at the reflection of light, and documenting the environment to capture mood and atmosphere is what it is all about for me.
As I look at my work, I am aware of the major roll that Nature plays in the way I see and make photographs. Nature has a way of peeling away the old to reveal something new to us. I revisit the places I love to photograph to see this process in action over time. Revisiting a place helps me to understand it better and see the finer details.
I look for images that reveal the vulnerability and yet endurance. I like the timelessness of many of the locations that I find and often collect rocks to remind me of a special place. I am always drawn to the smooth rounded ones that have survived the challenges of Nature. Many of the images were created along the New Jersey coastline and in Cape May where I hold my annual spring photography and painting workshops since 1990. Talk about a place I have revisited!
Since 1970, I have traveled throughout the world working on various photographic and video projects, which has given me the opportunity to explore many popular and cherished places with my cameras. What I quickly found is that right here in New Jersey there are a great number of locations that I can also go to for inspiration.
To order any of these images, please contact me directly at 908-790-8820 to discuss size, framing options and price.

I refer to them as Hyrids since they come from a mixture of origins and combine several mediums. Photography is at the core of each piece with other mediums applied on top of the photograph. In some, I am using the same elements and principles of design along with found objects to assemble the pieces.
I began my trip into mixed media with the Polaroid process of Manipulation. For these, I compose the image using a simple Polaroid camera and snap. When the photo shoots out the front, I manipulate the image by pressing on the photograph with pointed tools to push the chemistry around inside the photo pouch. This would alter the development and make them look like little Impressionistic paintings with the SX70 or 600 Polaroid film. These 3x3 inch photos were then scanned and enlarged onto watercolor inkjet paper. I could then embellish them further with pastel and watercolor. That is how the square pictures were created. It is a process that is no longer available since the film has been discontinued.
The rectangular images were straight photographs printed on watercolor paper and pastel was then applied over the image to give the painterly quality.
The third group are constructions with found objects.
They are all one of a kind works.
To order any of these images, please contact me directly at 908-790-8820 to discuss size, framing options and price.

Taken quickly when the moment makes sense, this candid style of photography requires a combination of serendipity, craft, and intuition, which is triggered by an inner signal of photographic maturity and life experience.
Some are a bit more formal in appearance while others are photographs of strangers on the street. My contribution to the process is to be the trained observer, and to work very quickly to capture the physical side of the subject as well as the emotional side by using whatever lighting is available. How does the subject move in different clothes and what gestures or body language are being used for expression? How can I use the light and shadow to help tell the story?
These are observations of daily life, moments, and spaces converted to black and white to add simplicity to the statements. I try to celebrate the individuality of each subject, expressing their humanity, unique personality, or physiological characteristics.
There are also many candids in the files on Cuba in Black and White/Cuba or Locations/Cuba that can be found in the drop downs from the main menu.

I look for images that reveal the vulnerability and yet endurance of the subject.
Since 1970, I have traveled throughout the world working on various photographic and video projects which has given me the opportunity to explore many popular and cherished places with my cameras. What I quickly found is that right here in New Jersey there are a great number of locations that I can also go for inspiration.
To order any of these images, please contact me directly at 908-790-8820 to discuss size, framing options and price.

It takes several visits before you get beyond the obvious images and really start to get to know a place. Orientation to a new shooting location is so important. Each image is a statement about what you are seeing and those statements cannot come until there is some clear understanding of the space, the stories and the history.
Featured here are two of my favorite old places: The Ghost Town of Bodie in California and Eastern State Prison in PA. Both portfolios, of which there are many more images than these, began by enjoying the peeling paint and ravages that time has brought to these structures. After additional visits, I began to study and know the places much more intimately.
It is always about the light and shadows, which became a major element of both themes. It was definitely about black and white to emphasize the mood with the shadows. In fact, I call the Bodie portfolio: Shadows and Memories.
The prison images I call Escaping into the Light. In this case, the peeling paint and vulnerability of the structure became part of the supporting elements but it was really about the relationship of the lone prisoner to the light coming from the outside and what that light revealed.
In both cases, I am dealing with available light, my favorite.
To order any of these images, please contact me directly at 908-790-8820 to discuss size, framing options and price.
