A core theme in my work has always been the changing beauty of landscape and architecture. I love to work with color, light, texture, and design in natural and man-made settings. Seeing photographically, thinking, looking at the reflection of light, and documenting the environment to capture mood and atmosphere is what it is all about for me.
As I look at my work, I am aware of the major roll that Nature plays in the way I see and make photographs. Nature has a way of peeling away the old to reveal something new to us. I revisit the places I love to photograph to see this process in action over time. Revisiting a place helps me to understand it better and see the finer details.
I look for images that reveal the vulnerability and yet endurance of the subject. I like the timelessness of many of the locations that I find and often collect rocks to remind me of a special place. I am always drawn to the smooth rounded ones that have survived the challenges of Nature.
Many of the images were created along the New Jersey coastline and in Cape May where I hold my annual spring photography and painting workshops since 1990. Talk about a place I have revisited!
Since 1970, I have traveled throughout the world working on various photographic and video projects which has given me the opportunity to explore many popular and cherished places with my cameras. What I quickly found is that right here in New Jersey there are a great number of locations that I can also go for inspiration.
