This portfolio is quite varied. I refer to them as Hyrids since they come from a mixture of origins and combine several mediums. Photography is at the core of each piece with other mediums applied on top of the photograph. In some, I am using the same elements and principles of design along with found objects to assemble the pieces.
I began my trip into mixed media with the Polaroid process of Manipulation. For these, I compose the image using a simple Polaroid camera and snap. When the photo shoots out the front, I manipulate the image by pressing on the photograph with pointed tools to push the chemistry around inside the photo pouch. This would alter the development and make them look like little Impressionistic paintings with the SX70 or 600 Polaroid film. These 3x3 inch photos were then scanned and enlarged onto watercolor inkjet paper. I could then embellish them further with pastel and watercolor. That is how the square pictures were created. It is a process that is no longer available since the film has been discontinued.
The rectangular images were straight photographs printed on watercolor paper and pastel was then applied over the image to give the painterly quality.
The third group are constructions with found objects.
They are all one of a kind works.
